When creating the magical world of Memoirs of a Sailor, 59 Productions made use of all of the extraordinary facilities of the world-class National Theatre at the Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Cultural Centre, establishing an ambitious new theatrical programme for Kuwait.
Themes of memory and imagination were the inspiration behind 59 Production’s approach to this much-loved story. Building on ideas of magic and transformation, 59 created a protean environment in which anything can happen: the stage transforming into a beach, a boat, and the underwater world of the pearl diver.
My Involvement
Working for 59 Productions, I created a series of scenic skies to feature as part of the projected environment.
I also created a variety of looping cloudscapes and underwater backdrops.
